Musica Antica - Baroque
In search of repertoire for young string players, these works were composed in the style of earlier times. The Baroque works follow the techniques of partimento, an approach to harmony that was the norm in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries as a means for teaching harmony, improvisation and composition. These pieces cater for players across a range of abilities.
Sonata Romanesca
Violin and keyboard, optional cello continuo
A four-movement Sonata in the style of Corelli, for intermediate level players. Can be played in first position.

Christmas Sonata
Cello, keyboard, optional cello continuo​

Composed for a Christmas service during the pandemic when a sudden lockdown forced a performance of Corelli's Christmas Concerto to be cancelled, this work follows the format of Corelli's famous concerto, beginning in g minor, and ending with a Pastorale.

Overture in G
String orchestra or quartet
A five-movement work in the style of the Baroque overture or suite, suitable for early intermediate students. All parts can be played in first position.

A three-movement sonata for early intermediate violinists.

Seven short, three-voice fugues in the keys of A, b min, C, D, e min, F and G.

Concerto à la Telemann
Two solo violas, strings

A much-needed addition to the repertoire for viola players, a double concerto for intermediate level viola players, and an ideal preparation for the Telemann Concerto.

Sonata Imitazione

A five-movement sonata that introduces young musicians to the delights of canonic and fugal writing, including canons at the 2nd and the 5th, a retrograde canon, and a four-voice fugue. Suitable for advanced intermediate students, both violin parts are of equal difficulty.
